How many of us could benefit from starting out our days in a similar fashion? My wager: all of us.

As adults, we know that we smile about a hundredth as many times as our children smile. We know that we constantly judge ourselves and others, berating ourselves about all that we do wrong, and are our own worst critics. This transfers into our own lives, as well as into the lives of those around us—including our kids. No wonder they grow up to become, well, us!

Why do we do this to ourselves? There is already enough negativity in the world without us filling our very minds with the stuff, isn’t there? By waking up each day with such a positive outlook and facing the world head-on with this glowing, fearless cry of self-affirmation, we can make both our own days better as well as those of our loved ones.

Let’s nip this one in the bud right this moment. The next time you think to yourself, “I’m so fat!” instead exclaim, “I am so beautiful! Beautiful me!” Use the most fun-filled voice you can come up with, of course.

Here are some other things you might want to shout out to the world…

“I love my house and it’s craziness!” (As you twirl with a broom, throw a dust cloth in the air and catch it, or, like I do, dance while you do laundry.)

“My family is the BEST and I love them so much!” (Remind yourself this when you’re picking up wet towels in the floor, too!)

“My body is beautiful and perfect the way it is! I love my awesome body! I love my butt, hips, stomach, thighs, (insert any and all body parts here)!” This one is especially important, particularly to say in front of kids. It’s also important to believe it yourself.

“My job is awesome! I’m so happy I can provide for my family!” This one is something I say quite a bit, actually, as do a few of my friends. We’re very lucky. But I’ve been in the opposite position before and know how hard it is to have a job you hate, too. Think of all the good things about your job—even if it’s just your paycheck and the fact that you have one!—and smile about them, knowing that nearly 1 in 10 people in our country is currently unemployed.
